Two Ways to Eliminate Your Double Chin

During consultation, we have the opportunity to talk with clients about their appearance, what they like about themselves, and what they would change. We often focus on faces, but some clients come to us looking for a solution for their chin and neck, either right away or as a part of the overall treatment journey.

Three out of four clients express dissatisfaction with the appearance and feel of their necks. Specifically, they are unhappy with:

  • Submental fat, commonly known as a double chin

  • Lax skin and folds

  • Wrinkles, also called "necklace" lines

  • Roughness and discoloration

For this blog post, we will focus on the double chin. Are you looking for solutions to the other three? Check out this post on anti-aging treatments for the neck.

The tricky part about double chins is that they are often genetic. Even when a client experiences weight loss or is already at a healthy weight, that double chin can persist; we have a few options for those whose weight loss doesn't bring the change they'd like to see!

Two Treatments to Reduce Your Double Chin

1. Kybella to Reduce Fat Cells

We can reduce or eliminate a double chin with Kybella, an injectable that permanently dissolves fat cells. Kybella also causes some tightening of the skin. We usually start with two vials when we include this treatment in a client's treatment journey. Depending on the degree of submental fat, some clients benefit from four or more.

2. CoolSculpting to Reduce Fat Cells

CoolSculpting is another excellent option to reduce the fat under the chin and is FDA-approved to bring some tightening as well. If a client is a good candidate for CoolSculpting in this area, we typically start with one to two cycles. Using either CoolSculpting or Kybella is best evaluated at a consultation where the fat's width, height, and depth are measured.

The icing on the cake for clients looking to eliminate their double chin would be to include jawline and chin filler as a part of their treatment journey. Defining and sculpting the area with filler can often give the illusion of a smaller, thinner neck.
